When a person walks or a vehicle moves over a surface embedded with piezoelectric plates, mechanical pressure is applied to the sensors. This pressure causes the piezoelectric crystals to deform, producing a small electric charge due to the piezoelectric effect. The generated voltage is then passed through a rectifier circuit to convert it from AC to DC and further regulated using a voltage regulator (like LM7805). The DC voltage is stored in a capacitor or battery.
